Who Are Most Affected by the Transmission of COVID-19?
During the live question and answer webcast, Director of Health Services was asked about vulnerable groups to the novel coronavirus. These are sections of the population that are more susceptible to the serious symptoms of the virus. Doctor Manzanero explains that while researchers and health officials have seen that trend, there are some countries that are reporting new trends when it comes to the infections of different age groups.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“Who are more vulnerable? The initial data suggest people who are in the older age groups and people who have chronic disease are more likely to have a more severe outcome. However, we are monitoring situations in terms of what is being reported in other countries, where they are now noticing that the younger strata age groups can also be infected and I think the person in Mexico was somebody under fifty that died and the same thing in Panama; the person who died was forty-five years but had diabetes and another complication. So, we really for practical purposes have to consider that all of us are vulnerable to COVID-19.”
