Public Service Union of Belize is calling on government to close all non-essential government offices across the country. Some ministries and departments have decided to close doors due to while others remain open. The P.S.U. is saying “amid this growing health and economic crisis, coupled with a depleted and unsafe transport system, the Union calls on the Government to stop the unnecessary exposure of non-essential service Public Officers to the spread and contracting of the virus during this period of economic slowdown.” Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte today addressed the matter during Ask the Expert session.

“I would imagine that discussion would be happening with the Public Service to ensure that each room where people work cannot have more than ten people. So the public service will have to make adjustments. The public service will have to determine who are those people who can absolutely do their jobs from home and have them do it from home. So the public service will have to go through the same exercise that a regular employer goes through.”
