“In the past the doctor told us that he was suffering from diabetes and we knew that one of the side effects was hypertension. He usually goes up to Belama were we live to visit and talk to us. We noticed sometimes that he would “blow short” (gasp for air) or get tired easily. We would tell him that maybe he is suffering from high blood pressure and to get his pressure checked to see what’s wrong.”
“In the morning as usual, he goes to my grandmother’s house and asks her what she had for breakfast and stuff like that. He was about to tell her something, but she didn’t hear. One of my cousins that live in Stann Creek and my aunt, Dorla Matura, saw they just saw him struggling as if he felt dizzy. I guess his pressure was high or his cholesterol or something, but they said that he fell to the ground.”
Family members attempted to revive Matura, but he died by on his way to the hospital. An autopsy conducted by Doctor Mario Estradabran concluded that Matura died from complications related to diabetes.
