Returning Belizeans to be Quarantine for 21 Days
There were a number of new quarantine measures put in place over the weekend. During today’s Ask the Experts segment, Doctor Marvin Manzanero was joined by John Bodden. He is the Principal Public Health Inspector and according to Bodden, any Belizean entering the country will be quarantined for twenty-one days at different facilities. And for those twenty-one days, a cost of one hundred and ten dollars per day for accommodation and three meals will be accumulating.
John Bodden, Principal Public Health Inspector
“What we are starting to do now is to look at the training for non health individuals because we are at the point now whereby we are enforcing anybody coming into the country will have to go immediate quarantine and as such we have to ensure that the facilities are up to scale for the use of these facilities. It is to reassure the community that we do have a place for these individuals to be taken once they come into the country. In fact we had for a time now where we said that the border is closed only to Belizeans and as such we have people migrating from the US and they are reaching our borders and they are Belizeans and we need to accommodate them. But we still need to look at the potential risk that exist with these individuals and ensure that we have mechanism to quarantine them and to monitor them. We know that we have been looking at the fourteen day period but we have extended this now based on research that we now need to extend this for twenty-one days.”
