Test Kits Update!

Late last week, the Director of Health Services said the country and in fact the region is running low on viral swabs used in testing for COVID-19. This afternoon, the office of the Prime Minister informed that test kits can be obtained from the Cayman Islands where there is an excess of these kits. According to a release, the tests kits were secured during a conversation between PM Barrow and Premier Alden McLaughlin of the Cayman Islands on April eleventh.  The size of the order will be determined by the Ministry of Health. During today’s Ask the Experts live webcast, Director of Health Services Doctor Marvin Manzanero gave an update on the number of test kits that are currently available in country.

“We have from the ROCHE batch, four kits of ninety-six; eight kits of ninety-six confirmatory tests and PAHO has sent to us last week, two thousand five hundred reactions. Reactions are kits that are being validated today for use in country. And as I understand from the PAHO country representative, we are to be getting eleven thousand five hundred more reactions over the next couple of weeks. And we are still pending forty kits of ninety-six of the ROCHE kits that we already have in the country. So if you do the Math, that’s the amount we have in country.”
