COVID-19 Data Up: 651 Screened; Positive Cases Remain at 18
Across the globe, there is a call for more testing to determine as much as possible the number of persons carrying the virus and to contain its spread. Even persons who are staying at home are encouraged to test if they are showing symptoms of the virus. But in many places there is a shortage of testing kits because they are being held up by the U.S. which is desperately in need of more testing kits. Locally, the PM said earlier in the week, that Belize is to acquire more testing kits from the Cayman Islands in addition to those from PAHO and the Roche Agency in Guatemala. Figures released by the Ministry of Health this afternoon show that six hundred and fifty-one persons have been screened so far. The number of positive cases remains at eighteen since Monday.

“Lone negatives. No positive cases yesterday; all of them were negative. I don’t have the full number of what was done yesterday, but we didn’t get any positive result yesterday. We need to remain focused on the items that have been said. I know people on one hand we are crucified whenever we do a positive and if it is a negative then they are saying oh maybe we are hiding something. We are trying to balance that, but let’s not forget the fact that we still need to keep doing what we are doing: the social distancing aspect, the washing of hands, people who are ill should not be accessing public system.”
