Still No Cure for Novel Coronavirus
Research and scientists have yet to produce a cure or vaccine for COVID-19. While the US Food and Drug Administration has not approved any drugs for the treatment, researchers released some good news about a possible treatment for coronavirus Wednesday. There is evidence that the experimental drug remdesivir might help patients recover quicker from the infection. Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero today spoke of possible treatments.

“Recent studies that hydroxychloroquine doesn’t seem to be as effective as it initially thought to be. As a matter of fact one of the warnings now is that you may actually have more detrimental effects with the use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine so that we asking those elements of the guidelines be reevaluate to see if we need to take out. We are following what other countries are doing. Remdesivir is another medication that seems to show some benefit. We don’t have that in Belize. There is a Mexican cohort using steroids and a medication used for rheumatoid arthritis that we are also following closely. But then again this is all a work in progress.”
