Belize to Be Hit by 2nd COVID-19 Wave
Officially, by Sunday, Belize should recover from the first wave. This would mean that after twenty-eight days, there have been no new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. Health officials, however, are expecting a second wave. In fact, Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero says that several COVID-19 waves are expected by the end of the calendar year. The challenge would be identifying persons who are asymptomatic to the virus.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“If there were asymptomatic cases we have simply not been able to pick them up. That is the reason why you give the twenty eight days because you went back and you swabbed all those contact that were initially negative. You swab them to get two negatives after fourteen days. What that means is had those persons been ill had they infected somebody else, that fourteen day cycle would have been met. Even a second wave if you will from those last cases identified should have appeared by now. If would be very interesting if in point in fact if you had all those asymptomatic and we are not finding asymptomatic cases. So we will be to say that we would have resolved a first wave this time around.”
