Belize today recorded its twentieth COVID-19 case. The patient was caught illegally entering the country in the south. The twenty-two-year-old Belizean woman was swabbed and tested after she was caught entering Belize illegally on Sunday, June seventh. The Ministry of Health says that the female was traveling with a one-year-old child and a sixty-three-year-old female, who were all placed in the mandatory quarantine facility in Punta Gorda. Since the start of the crisis, Toledo and Dangriga has remained COVID free and case number twenty is the first to be detected in the south. The female is the second asymptomatic patient to test positive for COVID-19.  Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero says that the contact tracing process is currently underway.

“Okay sir. That person is a Belizean national? Can you give us some details?”

On the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“It is a Belizean national yes, who was caught entering the country illegally. I don’t have the particulars of where exactly she has been or how long she has been out, but she was in the company of a minor and another adult.”

Duane Moody

“Now that person along with the minor and the other adult is in quarantine right now?”

On the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“There are at the PG Sporting Complex which is the quarantine area for Punta Gorda.  She was caught on Sunday and she was swabbed yesterday and we ran a test today.”

Duane Moody

“The other two persons tested negative?”

On the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Yes.”

Duane Moody

“What happens going forward with these persons?”

On the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“We have to do the contact tracing, find out where they potentially became infected. The two females will have to be separated and then everybody will have to wait out the fourteen-day quarantine period and re-swabbed again to determine if they have zero converted back and see what happens with the other two females that would have been exposed.”

Duane Moody

“This person was asymptomatic sir?”

On the Phone: Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Asymptomatic; only swabbed because she as caught entering illegal.”
