Fire leaves minor with severe burns

A fire in the wee hours of this morning left a minor with first and second degree burns. Around three-thirty a.m., twenty-eight year old Kimberly Trapp and her eight year old son, Kareem Fisher, along with their thirteen year old neighbour, Robert Lord, was asleep in their wooden home located on Elston Kerr Street when the fire broke. Mother and son escaped the flames but Lord was not so lucky and was trapped in the back room. He suffered extreme burns to his body, and was pulled out of the flames by his father, Marvin Lord.

“About three-fifteen soh, my neighbour came and knocked on my house and told me that her house was on fire and then when I came out then she told me that my son was inside trapped.”

“Sleeping. And I went on the back room where he was and then I tried to get him out. I broke open the window but when I was trying the first time, the fire just blaze inside then I had to remove and then I went back and get him out with my nephew and my neighbour, we all took him out.”

“Second degree burns on his whole back, rear legs and hands and over his face.”

“I just jump up when I hear some glass di bruk up eena my hall part and when I jump up I notice like di electricity di sparks. And soh I hail my son and my son mi di sleep wid me and I stamp open two ah my louvers, a couple of my louvers and I get out and I take he out. But my neighbour’s son mi still deh in deh. I gone and I hail my neighbour and I tell ahn ih son still deh in deh. Dah so dehn gone and dehn bruk out di louvers and tek he out. But by di time dehn mi di look fi get to he, he mi done pass out deh but ih mih eena di back room pan di bed, soh dehn dreg he out and dehn ker ah dah hospital.”

Up to news time the cause of the fire is unknown but what is certain is that the items and the home were not insured.
