Hospitals Implementing Cost Saving Measures
The N.H.I. is not the only health institution that is carrying out cost-saving measures. Hospitals across the country have been asked to tighten up its budget by removing unnecessary costs. The Southern Regional Hospital has made cuts that include the availability of coffee for staff and the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has also been reducing costs and has severed ties with two specialists. Minister Marin says these measures must be taken to ensure the readiness of the hospitals.
Pablo Marin, Minister of Health
“I think everybody has to realize the severity of the situation in the country. The revenue we don’t have. We need to borrow money every month to pay salaries and I think everyone should realize that we need to do certain kinds of measures, the twelve hour shift instead of the eight hour shift for us to be able to minimize the overtime. I think all of us need to be aware of that. Every ministry of health facility has to be ready. We have the team that is prepared and again I mention that we don’t have to use the Ministry of Health’s health clinic if the people of Belize do necessary precautions.”
