Minister of Health: “That is the fear that we have.”

Marvin Manzanero

Two more COVID-19 cases were confirmed on Monday. This brings the total of active cases to eighteen. The tests resulted positive after sixty six more samples were processed, mostly from repatriates who had arrived in the country on Friday, July seventeenth. The two new cases are both males. One person entered the country through the Western Border from Guatemala while the other on the repatriation flight. Both men are asymptomatic and remain under quarantine. There are currently eighteen active COVID-19 cases with the majority being in the Orange Walk District. Concerns still linger on border jumpers as officials believe this might spark a community spread.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services

“Forty two total cases, none of them are requiring specific treatment. None of them are in hospital. None of them are critically ill. I believe that they will go through the routine recovery phase. I wouldn’t be too concern with those cases identified because they are all in a quarantine area.”

Pablo Marin, Minister of Health

“We have a good hold on everybody that comes into the country but the people that are crossing the border illegally we don’t have where they have where they are and normally when we go and talk to those people they lie to where they were. So we can’t control that. That is the fear that we have. Once that starts to spread that will be a problem for us.”
