Inadequate Quarantining in San Pedro

Dion Vansen

Health officials from the Central Health Region have been on the island as contact tracing exercise continues for positive cases. While all active cases are currently quarantined, majority at their respective homes, there is a situation of congestion.  COVID-positive patients cannot properly quarantine from the rest of the household due to crammed living conditions. Ministry of Health personnel out in San Pedro have documented this, suggesting the need for a quarantine facility on the island.

“The living conditions are not helping when it comes to quarantine. A lot of people have to quarantine at home, but a lot of families are living in a one-bedroom apartment. So if you have five persons in a one-bedroom apartment and there is no additional space to quarantine from your other relatives. So that was one observation that pointed out by members of M.O.H. that have been going around visiting these homes where people are being quarantined. That there should be a quarantine facility on the island so that these people can be quarantined alone and not be inside a home with other members because them they can spread the disease to other family members.”
