Nightclub Goers Form an Active Cluster in San Pedro
The number of positive cases in San Pedro continues to jump and is peaking at one hundred and thirty-three as community transmission of COVID-19 spreads on the island. There are three active clusters and tonight, the Ministry of Health is reporting that a large number of cases may have been infected at a nightclub on the island. There is also concern about the exposure at a construction site, but many of those workers left the island before the shutdown. Today, Doctor Manzanero gave an update on those clusters.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“Coming back to the clusters, once we started to review the data and that happens daily, on Saturday and Sunday when we started to make the link by Sunday we had known that there was a common denominator that we found in the samples that had turned up positive in San Pedro. Forty-two percent of the cases that had been identified by Sunday in San Pedro had a common denominator and that is the nightclub that is named in that release. Having been at the nightclub around the period that we suggested which is around July sixteenth to the nineteenth. So, I think it is important that we specify where the hotspot may have been. On Tuesday, that was yesterday, we had thirty-three out of eighty four samples that were positive; that’s thirty-nine point three percent of the samples tested. Thirty one of those were in the island of San Pedro.”
