Third Person Dies of COVID-19 in Belize

Luis Romero Sr.

We can confirm tonight that a third person has died because of COVID-19 in Belize.  The Office of the Director of Health Services confirmed this information just before news time, saying that the person passed away earlier at the Intensive Care Unit of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and the diagnosis had just been confirmed this afternoon.  The victim was less than twelve hours in the I.C.U.  The person is from Belize City and has been identified as fifty-two-year-old Luis Romero Senior. His daughter took to Facebook and in a personal post she said, “My dad passed away just some hours ago, he had symptoms during this week which progressed within one day. My brother begged M.O.H. to test him from last week Thursday. They said he had no links to anybody positive and a bad flu is going around and if he went to a clinic, they will give him meds and that’s it.” The daughter also shared that on Friday they were informed that someone who was working with her brother was COVID-19 positive. She said, “He begged M.O.H. to test him Friday and they said they would and did so on Monday. We received his results after I sent a strong message to M.O.H. saying both were experiencing symptoms YESTERDAY. They did not test my dad, but my mother, nephew, and brother’s girlfriend were tested.” When she asked why her father was not tested, she was told because he probably already has it.  According to the daughter, the father began feeling dizzy last night and was taken to the I.C.U. this morning and later intubated. The family was informed of his passing at around two o’clock this afternoon.
