To Date 20 Healthcare Workers Have Tested Positive for COVID-19

There are now more than five hundred cases of the virus recorded in Belize. There is an increase in the number of healthcare workers who have tested positive for COVID-19. DHS Manzanero says that the number is now at twenty – it has doubled in a matter of days. Other frontline workers like police officers and other law enforcement units have recorded positive cases.  Doctor Manzanero shared today that those sick healthcare workers who are asymptomatic are not on duty.

“There are several reports from those in the health field who say that they have tested positive but because they are symptomatic they are still being asked to work because the health sector is short of staff. I don’t know that that is true. I don’t know of any health staff that is positive has been asked to report to work; not in public sector or private sector. I believe that up to today we have twenty healthcare workers who have tested positive; ten of those being in public, two are Karl Heusner and the remainder in private sector. But I don’t know that that is the case and that is not in the policy either.”
