No Private Parties or Outside Visitors Allowed
The new curfew hours will apply throughout the week and along with the additional measures that will be implemented as of August twenty-third, is a ban on private entertainment. Visitors will be banned from gathering at other residences for the purpose of socializing and athletes will be forbidden from participating in sporting activities, including volleyball and basketball. That recommendation came from Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero, who raised concerns about the sanitization of the balls in use.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“We’re going to completely prohibit private parties which would include any persons from outside of the immediate household of the principal occupant of the house. We’re going to stop all recreational or competitive sporting events. Last time I had said we wanted to give a pass to things like volleyball and perhaps three a side basketball, but there’s just no way, as Dr. Manzanero said, of sanitizing the ball after every play and so it can’t work, given the circumstances those things are going to have to stop. So the public parks and playgrounds—those places that have basketball courts. We’re going to prohibit use of those public parks and playgrounds. So all that will come under the rubric of the prohibition of all recreational or competitive sporting events.”
