Positive Cases Linked to San Pedro are Showing Up in the North and West
DHS Marvin Manzanero says that the Ministry’s contact tracing and swabbing exercise continues to capture patients connected to San Pedro. Manzanero notes that although some test results may not include San Pedro or if the numbers appear low for the island on the infographic, several of those who left the island just before the lockdown have turned up in their screening and testing exercise in the west and north. Here’s how he explains is.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“One of the important things, I think, because people keep saying testing is not happening in San Pedro but you will also note that a vast amount of people after the lockdown was announced for San Pedro they actually left San Pedro. So that the testing may not be reflecting in San Pedro but you saw that happening Cayo and that is how we managed to capture some of the cases connected to the construction site. Sampling of those cases still happening in Orange Walk and Corozal and just this Saturday we tested two persons who worked at the construction site whose relative had died. And they had not been tested before even though we had made the call for people to come in and get the process sorted out. So, it is not necessarily going to be from San Pedro but the links are still there. So, now we are finding people who are highly symptomatic and those are the ones we have to go and look for and those who have pre-morbid conditions like we have previously said.”
