COVID Cases Increase by 45 over the Weekend
Is the curve flattening in the COVID-19 cases? On Friday, the number of coronavirus patients in Belize went up by thirty-six, with a majority of those cases, twenty-three to be exact, confirmed in the Belize District. Over the weekend, the number of cases increased by forty-five over the two days, twenty-three on Saturday and twenty-two on Sunday. These positive cases are from a total of five hundred and eight samples. The country has now recorded one thousand four hundred and eighty positive cases and nine hundred and sixty-nine are currently active. Today, Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero broke down the figures, saying that the number of new cases identified has been declining. He also confirmed that only one person remains critical and is in ventilation at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“We got those samples from most of the district. The numbers don’t seem to be as high as before and these are all contacts of persons who have been previously identified for the most part. As I said, the numbers don’t seem to be all that high.”

“Are there any persons hospitalized?”
Dr. Marvin Manzanero
“We have one person who is currently ventilated; that’s at Karl Heusner. The last note I had, we had five other persons in the containment area; one of those I believe was still pending a result, the other three were confirmed positive and for a high nasal oxygen without requiring ventilation. For the most part, the numbers have not increased at Karl Heusner and the number of hospitalized cases in other entities has also not increased, but that doesn’t mean that we let our guards down. We always have to be on the lookout for cases and make sure that the cases that may require hospitalization are referred rather promptly.”
