Mexican Ambassador Presented with a Key of Friendship

Carlos Quesnel Melendez

Trade is closely linked to diplomacy. According to the affable Ambassador, one of the most noteworthy accomplishments is the exportation of cattle to Mexico. Earlier this month two hundred and forty-one heads of cattle from Blue Creek were officially exported to Mexico. Quesnel hopes that in the years to come, trade between both countries can progress significantly.

Carlos Quesnel Melendez, Mexican Ambassador to Belize

“One very important issue is trade. So Belize has as Mexico many trade agreements but there is not one between Mexico and Belize. And that is something that is something that is hindering both country. Mexico is ready. Belize is ready. So we have been working for the last couple of years in reaching a partial scope agreement that would be benefit both countries. What does is mean, a partial scope agreement? Belizeans produces are able to export to Mexico more products with less the payment of taxes and the other way around. Certainly is not an open book. We choose, both governments which sects we want to open and which sectors we want to protect. It depends on the efficiency of the economy and the needs of the economy.  We have done our best efforts for promoting particular export from cattle from Belie to Mexico. I feel proud that the embassy could be part of this process and through the Belizean producers who do the first export of this wonderful cattle that you have in Belize and that in Mexico it is well known of the quality of the meat of the cattle.”
