34 COVID-Related Deaths, 3 Additional Deaths under Investigation
The mortality rate of the novel coronavirus for the country is at one point five percent for now. Since the outbreak in Belize, thirty-four persons, twelve women and twenty-two men, have lost the fight against the disease. Earlier this week, there were four recorded in twenty-four hours. Over the course of the last twenty-four hours, three persons have died and COVID-19 is believed to be the cause. As we reported earlier, a result of swabbing done on a prison warden posthumously is pending and so is the case of a B.D.F. woman from Mahogany Heights, Silvia Major, who died this morning at her home. And then, there is a third suspect COVID-19 patient who died in Orange Walk. Doctor Marvin Manzanero says that samples have been taken from these deceased persons to determine if their deaths are COVID-related.

“I have asked a team to verify whether she is a confirmed case and what was the circumstances that surrounded her death. So I will not be able to tell you if she is a COVID-19 related death. I can tell you that there are two other cases and who were swabbed because they died either on their way to the hospital or upon arrival in the last twenty-four hours. Those persons have also been swabbed and we are pending for those results, so we have three other deaths that we are investigating.”
