Another COVID Wave Expected in Late November
More than two thousand eight hundred cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the country. Five hundred and thirty-one are currently under investigation. More than one thousand six hundred persons have recovered while forty-five persons to date have died from the virus. One thousand and ninety-six cases are active, mostly in the Orange Walk District where four hundred and one cases are currently active. The number of COVID-cases continues to increase and with nomination day on Wednesday and elections around the corner, the probability of the number of cases increasing is high. According to Doctor Marvin Manzanero, it was anticipated that a flattening of the curve would have been happening now. However, it is now being anticipated that another wave would hit in late November as we enter the flu season.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“We had anticipated we could start a flattening as of now and we do anticipate another curve to come I think when we go further in to the flu season which means the latter part of November going in to December. We anticipate those curves are going to or another wave will come. We had dengue previously documented in Orange Walk as well. We anticipate that other flu viruses are going to start to appear but of course we have to start to do more active screening for that. So we are working with the regions to ensure that they are taking samples for other things other than SARSCOV2 because not everything is SARSCOV2. We can’t just be thinking of SARSCOV2 and forget about the other virus. We also want to highlight the good stories. People are tending to concentrate on just the negative elements and we feel that that might be why people routinely would perhaps not seek medical care. They say if they take me to the hospital this is what is going to happen. We make it a note to also to highlight if any people are being discharged from the hospital. We have had two discharges so far today from Northern Regional Hospital in which they did not require to be referred anywhere else. Two discharges from Karl Heusner and we did have one delivery in somebody who is positive in Corozal. The baby and the mom are both well and they were released home yesterday.”
