Will Additional Restrictions Be Imposed on Orange Walk?

Michael Peyrefitte

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Orange Walk is increasing by about twenty to thirty new cases daily and with over one thousand one hundred and seventy positive cases identified in that district, it remains the epicentre of the virus. And while the ComPol is looking at enforcement of measures, we were asked the Attorney General whether stricter measures will be imposed on that district, given the unabated COVID-19 situation.

Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General

“I have said from day one, the SI is a living document. It could change daily; it could change hourly. So clearly with the upsurge in cases in the area, we are looking at it as we speak. We are looking at it, we are analysing the situation and a decision could come very soon to determine whether or not we will keep it as is and just enforce social distancing and mask wearing or we may have to take extra strict measures. We don’t know yet, but whatever decision we have to make to protect the people of Orange Walk and the rest of the country, that is the decision that we will make.”
