1 Additional COVID Death is Recorded; 16 Hospitalized
The country continues to be ravaged by the COVID pandemic as the number of cases continues to grow especially so in the district of Orange Walk. Tonight there is another COVID-19 to report, bringing the total number of casualties to fifty-nine. The victim is a female in her forties who had underlying conditions and died in San Ignacio; the fatality rate now stands at one point six-nine percent. Over the weekend, a total of four hundred and seventy-seven samples were processed of which one hundred and fifteen returned positive. Those samples were taken from across the country, including the south, where a number of persons in the banana industry were swabbed and tested positive for the coronavirus. So since the outbreak in Belize three thousand five hundred and seventy-seven cases have been confirmed; there are currently one thousand three hundred and eleven active cases and two thousand two hundred and seven have recovered. The Ministry of Health is also monitoring the number of intubated COVID-positive persons. There are eight patients hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. in Belize City and the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk. Two of these patients are intubated at the K.H.M.H.
