COVID-19 Numbers Trending Up – 166 Cases Recorded in a Single Day!
The latest COVID-19 results were released late on Tuesday night – and it was another night of record breaking positive results for Belize. The latest infographic reveals that PCR tests show that one hundred and sixty-six persons tested positive for the virus in one day. Prior to this, only one other single day registered recorded breaking number and that was last week when PCR tests were combined with the rapid tests at the prison. Today, we spoke with DHS Dr. Marvin Manzanero who shares that the numbers in the Belize District and Cayo District are on the increase.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“In terms of PCR tests confirmed in one day, one hundred and sixty-six is the highest number we have had in one single day. In Corozal and Orange Walk, you know the numbers have been there and higher than the national average in terms of incidence rates. However, we are now starting to see the increase in Belize City and that was anticipated because of the communication with Orange Walk. We see a significant spike now in the Cayo area as well. We had thirty six samples – that’s almost twenty-five percent of the cases were from the Cayo area and of course the twenty-nine cases reported in Stann Creek but when you look at the Cayo, Belize and Stann Creek districts the three of them had more numbers than did Orange Walk and Corozal yesterday. So, the numbers are really just going up everywhere.”
