Hemophilia Society meets in Toledo
Also on Saturday but at the opposite end of the country, members of the Belize Hemophilia Society met for their annual general meeting. The gathering in Forest Home Village in Toledo featured an address by Dr. Victor Rosado, who explained the society’s goal of making safe treatment accessible and affordable to hemophilia patients countrywide. People with hemophilia have blood which lacks the ability to clot. This means that even a single cut will not stop bleeding and the victim can actually bleed to death. Treatment of the disease is very expensive and the society works hard to obtain assistance both at home and abroad. There are five documented cases of hemophilia in Belize with three in Toledo, one in Corozal and another in Burrell Boom. The AGM was attended by around 50 people. Francisca Bardalez was elected president.
