COVID-19 at BWS, One Employee Passes Away

Harold Williams

One of the COVID deaths over the weekend involved a well-known and beloved employee of Belize Water Services Limited.  Marlon Williams was on the verge of celebrating his twentieth anniversary with the utility company when he contracted the disease.  His passing has saddened his fellow colleagues at BWS where there are five active cases of coronavirus among members of staff.  Earlier today, we spoke with Public Relations Manager, Haydon Brown, who shared with us information about the outbreak at the workplace.

Haydon Brown, Public Relations Manager, BWS

“Currently at Belize Water Services we have had five of our employees who have tested positive for COVID.  In recent we have had three, three of our field workers.  The others, the first two were both independent cases that we can say were not really work-related but the other three were all employees coming to work and as such I believe by contact with each other, may have contracted the virus.  So that’s our current position.”

“Is there a concern that this has created a cluster in the workplace?”

Haydon Brown

“Currently I would say that we don’t necessarily feel that there is.  There is not a need for concern at this point because as we had indicated in our press release we immediately delved into the matter that was brought to our attention and all the employees that were involved quarantined and were self-isolated to their respective homes.  As soon as we got wind of anybody with any flu-like symptoms, that has been a standard within the organization.  From day one, when it comes to COVID, anybody with flu-like symptoms they are immediately advised to, if they’ve come to work already they are sent back home.  But outside of that, most employees would just remain at home and inform their supervisors.”
