COVID-19 Rapid Tests for Cops!

Chester Williams

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will be embarking on rapid testing in different parts of the country.  One frontline unit that’s going to benefit from those tests is the Belize Police Department.  As we’ve reported, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has voiced his concerns about getting tests for his officers who are on the frontlines dealing with the public on a daily basis. He says today that the new Minister of Home Affairs and the Minister of Health have heard his cries and those rapid tests are being made available for his officers.

“Is that a pitch that you will make again for some type of rapid testing be made available for police?”

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“That pitch has been made and has been approved. The minister informed me in our earlier meeting that the Minister of Health has agreed that when it comes to police officers the rapid test is what is going to be used. And again if we have too many of our officers down, it does not help our national security effort in terms of providing internal security for our people and so I am happy that the Minister through his colleague, the minister of health, has now made it possible for our officers to get rapid test instead of going through that lengthy process of waiting two to three weeks for a test result.”

Reporter
“When will that be coming on line, sir?”

Chester Williams
“I think it starts today.”
