M.O.H.W. Receives Donation from Taiwan
On Monday, the Ministry of Health and Wellness received a grant for the “Project for strengthening Medical Imaging Systems in Belize”, as well as other medical supplies from the Taiwanese Embassy. The donation forms part of a grant that is valued at more than one million Belize dollars that’s funded by the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Minister Michel Chebat received the donation on behalf of the ministry from Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize Remus Li-Kuo Chen. Here’s a look at how the handing over went.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness
“The Ministry hereby acknowledges the donation made possible through the project agreement, where the first of two disbursements, a total of one million one hundred thousand Belize dollars has been received. I thank the Republic of Taiwan and the Ambassador for his contribution to the Ministry of Health & Wellness especially in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry also recognizes three additional donations, including an emergency medical kit, medicine and portable equipment for those suffered from the flooding, as well as five thousand isolation gowns and thirty-thousand surgical masks for the medical service providers and first responders combating COVID-19 in Belize. The total value of these donations is approximately a hundred and sixty thousand Belize dollars.”
Remus Li-Kuo Chen, Ambassador of Taiwan to Belize
“I am extremely honored to hand over the first tranche for the project of strengthening medical imaging systems to the Government of Belize. The grant will be used for the improvement of medical imaging services in public hospitals such as KHMH, Western and Northern Regional Hospitals especially for procuring computed radiography or the CR equipment and picture archiving and communications system PACS.”
Through the project, two Belizean doctors are currently in Taiwan doing a three-year radiologist residency training. It’s expected that other IT techs and radiographers will also be receiving specialized training in Taiwan.
