Number of Active Cases Drastically Reduced, but No Social Gatherings

Michel Chebat

From the health perspective, the number of active cases has decreased considerably to a little over one thousand, five hundred infections based on a redefined method by the World Health Organization on determining whether a person is recovered.  Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat spoke of rapid testing being conducted across the country.  As for social gatherings, the Minister of Home Affairs says the limit is ten visitors only and not for the purpose of partying.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness

“Currently we have one thousand, five hundred and twenty-six active cases and sadly, two hundred and thirteen deaths to report.  These are all cumulative numbers.  Again, my sincere condolences go out to all who have lost a loved one to this dreaded virus.  With the increase in rapid testing throughout the country by public and private facilities, we have been able to test, detect and isolate an increasing number of persons with COVID-19.  As promised, we have rolled out rapid testing and we have instituted mobile units that are now also doing the rapid testing for COVID-19 and some of the areas we are now covering include in Orange Walk, the People’s Stadium which we attend on Tuesdays and Fridays.  And in the high risk communities, we have the mobile units visiting twice a week.  In the Stann Creek District we have the Pomona Health Center, the Westrac construction site and the Dangriga Police Station and the banana farms.”

“Gatherings, I know that at this time of year many people are questioning, can I have anybody over at my house? No, you are not allowed to have anybody at your house.  So no type of private gathering is allowed.  You cannot organize, host or attend private gatherings.  Ten people maximum, so every now and then you might have a visitor, unexpected.  That’s different from hosting a private gathering.  You can have a visitor but make sure it is never over ten people.  The moment you’re over ten people inside your residence then everybody can be charged under this S.I., everybody, the person who owns the house and those who are attending that private gathering that has more than ten people.”
