Ministry of Health and Wellness Receives Fully Equipped Ambulances
The Ministry of Health and Wellness received six ambulances during a brief ceremony on Monday. The ambulances were donated by the Belize Road Safety Project and come fully equipped. The ambulances were purchased through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank in2019, under Belize’s Second Road Safety Project. The six fully equipped type-three ambulances were handed over in support of Belize’s Road Safety Master Plan 2030 and will contribute to the improvement of Post-Crash Care. Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat says that a key component of this multifaceted approach is the speed at which victims of road collisions can, first of all, be treated at the scene by competent medical personnel, and secondly, taken to a hospital or health facility for further treatment in a well-equipped ambulance.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness
“Belize was the recipient of grants funds of C.D.B. to assist in the development of an investment plan of action for improving road safety in Belize in December 2010. This cooperation launch in Belize was C.D.B.’s first of its kind using a comprehensive and integrated approach which included the United Nations’ pillars of action for road safety. The Ministry of Health and Wellness and by extension the government and people of Belize reiterate their appreciated to the Caribbean Development Bank for the strategic partnership in contributing these fully equip type three ambulances which I also understand are really hospital on the move without an operating table in our efforts to save lives from road traffic crashes and strengthening the post care crash capacity in Belize. These six ambulances will be deployed at the following health facilities. Two will be deployed to the northern health region which will be use to cover Orange Walk and Corozal and communities in between. One will so be deployed to assist in the area covering Corozal town to the northern border. Another ambulance will be deployed at the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga, two are designated for the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan and we anticipate that those will be covering Belmopan to the coastal road junction with the George Price Highway and the area of San Ignacio and surrounding communities.”
