Caye Caulker Teen Needs Your Help for Life-Saving Surgery!

Rondel Usher

A nineteen-year-old resident of Caye Caulker needs your help to get a much-needed surgery.  Rondel Usher was on a fishing trip four days ago near the island when he was injured in a boat accident.  Usher, a father of one, is no longer able to walk and has suffered injuries to the spine.  His friends and family are now trying to raise fifty thousand dollars to take him to Merida to get an operation that will improve his quality of life.  Today, Usher’s friend, Gabriella Gonzalez spoke with us about his condition.

Gabriella Gonzalez, Friend of Rondel Usher

“They said that he had fractured his neck and he has two broken bones in his neck right where the spine begins. We know the spinal cord has all the nerves there and so he fractured his spine and he is completely immobile right now.”

“So, you are trying to raise funds right now for what?”

Gabriella Gonzalez

“Because he is not able to move, the only way that the doctor is explaining, he cannot move at all. He has no feeling from the neck down and so right now Rondel doesn’t actually know what is going on. He thinks he isn’t able to feel anything because of the pain meds. He doesn’t know that he won’t be able to walk to walk again. The doctor is saying that with his surgery they will be able to fix his spine a little bit because it is twisted right now and with electrotherapy he may be able to regain feeling in his body because he has a lot of nerve damage. Without the surgery they are saying that he will not be able to move at all and he will lose the chance to ever walk again and because of his nerve damage and not being able to feel anything from the neck down, his organs will stop functioning eventually and they are not sure if he will make it throughout the year without the surgery.”

If you can assist Usher to help pay for his surgery, you are asked to deposit payment to Atlantic Bank account number 2-1-1-5-4-1-3-4-9.
