Barbados Secures Donation of COVID-19 Vaccines from India
Barbados has secured one hundred thousand Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from India through an effort led by Prime Minister Mia Mottley. Mottley reached out to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in mid-January expressing that the island nation was facing a strangely challenging situation and was interested in a donation, as well as purchase of vaccines from India where they are being produced. In reaching out to Foreign Minister Eamon Courtenay for comment on Belize’s efforts on the diplomatic front, he told News Five, (Quote) “the government through the Ministry of Health and Wellness has been pursuing several options to procure the vaccines, including the COVAX facility. So far contacts have been made with a number of friendly countries and our requests are under consideration.” (Unquote)
