B.M.D.A. Endorses Dr. Diaz-Musa
Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa is the B.M.D.A.’s choice for Director of Health Services, but the glowing endorsement she has received from her colleagues in the medical community may not carry much weight. That’s because the decision to replace Doctor Marvin Manzanero in that capacity does not lie with the Belize Medical and Dental Association. In fact, it’s a decision reserved for the Public Service Commission’s job reclassification unit. In a letter to Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat, the B.M.D.A. expressed its satisfaction with the work that Doctor Diaz-Musa has done as Acting D.H.S. The association cites a number of achievements that Doctor Diaz-Musa has accomplished in the fight against COVID-19, including greater access to personal protective equipment for doctors on the frontline. Prime Minister John Briceño has since chimed in on the administrative logjam that has Doctor Manzanero fighting to retain his post with the ministry. It is expected that Minister Chebat will meet with PM Briceño this week to discuss the way forward where the impasse is concerned.
