The positivity rate for COVID-19 is down to one point four percent from a whopping sixty-five percent in last November of last year. The latest figures show that there were seven confirmed new cases, seventeen recoveries and one new death. Active cases are also down to one hundred and forty persons, with the majority being women. In a recorded statement from the Ministry of Health and Wellness on the acquisition of one thousand COVID-19 vaccines from Barbados, Minister Michel Chebat focused on the strides made in the fight against the deadly virus since taking office back in November 2020.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness
“Since my appointment as the Minister of Health and Wellness last November, my mandate and personal commitment has been to reduce the positivity rate of the COVID-19 countrywide. We immediately set about to include medical experts both in private practice and in the public sector to provide us with the best advice on how to accomplish this. The strategy devised including a decentralisation and broad based testing, reduction of waiting time to obtain test results, introduction of ivermectin and remdesivir as well as convalescent plasma in our arsenal in this war against COVID-19. These coupled with our varied public health measures and public education has led us from an average of two hundred daily positive results when we started to less than twenty per day.”
