What Happens If Teachers Refuse to Take Vaccine?
But what about teachers? Well, Belizean educators will be relieved to find out they are among one of the first groups included in the vaccine rollout plan. Because the Ministry of Education is expecting face-to-face learning to resume in August/September, the government is prioritizing teacher vaccinations to assist in the safe reopening of schools. But what will happen if some teachers refuse to get their shot? Will those teachers be penalized? Here’s how Prime Minister John Briceño responded to that question from News Five on Monday.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“I don’t think a teacher will be asked to be resigned, but then that teacher has to be fully conscious of that bad decision – I was going to say something more stronger – but if they decide not to take that vaccine. But then that should not prevent that teacher to use the excuse that ih noh gwen go teach because ih noh get the vaccine. They will have to go to teach as far as I am concerned. We need to get the children back to school.”
