B.M.A. Staff Receives COVID-19 Vaccine Shot
As the administering of some five hundred doses of COVID-19 vaccine gets underway at the nation’s public health hospitals and clinics, over at the Belize Medical Associates in Belize City, fifteen staffers, including nurses, technicians from the COVID-19 Unit also got vaccinated. Internist Doctor Fernando Cuellar spoke to News Five today about people’s apprehension about the vaccine, and even conspiracy theories that may make them hesitant to get their shot.

“I know that there may be a lot of fear, everybody scared because it is a new thing, but we must remember that in Belize, we have a reputation, we have a record of having good vaccination numbers. Everybody get vaccination from dehn small, from yo dah baby without even realising that. I think we have a percentage of maybe over ninety-five percent of Belizeans getting vaccinated from dehn born. Yes, you could understand the real fears and concerns. I wah take it because I have done enough researches, I have had enough recommendations from colleagues internationally and nationally that it is number one safe. That is the first thing that people need to overcome that it is a very safe vaccine. You do have, unfortunately like everything else; you could have a lee reaction. The area where they give yo di vaccine might hurt. They might got wah lee flulike symptom that means yo di ketch wah lee cold, or wah flu, lee body ache, lee fever. And unfortunately some people could have a more severe reaction, but that is very small amount. And then you have those who would say that dehn noh trust because dehn hear dah wah thing to wipe out the black man, dah wah thing fu sterilize people, dehn hear dah wah thing fu change yo mentality and all kinda thing, but that is not true. And we need fi understand that you could still ketch it even if yo ketch the vaccine, but yo noh run the risk of having it severe or yo noh run the risk of end up ina I.C.U. and di dead and so forth. So for yourself it is good and for other people because yo wah stop the easy transmission from one to the next.”
