Where Do You Fit in the COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout?
This week, as the limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses Belize obtained from Barbados is being used for frontline healthcare workers, you may be wondering when vaccinations will be available for you, your loved ones and coworkers. According to the Ministry of Health’s “Vaccine Plan Belize,” there will be five phases of the rollout when the larger supply of COVAX vaccines arrive beginning at the end of this month. In Phase one, in addition to health care workers, Belizeans over the age of sixty and people with conditions like cancer, HIV or those needing dialysis will be vaccinated first. Phase two will include teachers and police officers, members of the National Assembly, judiciary, customs and immigration. The tourism sector will also be included in Phase two. Phase three will be for B.D.F., coast guard and the national fire service. It also includes people with co-morbidities, Red Cross personnel and all utility workers and bank employees. Phase four is for all public officers not covered by any of the previous phases and transportation workers, both public and private. The last phase is for younger and middle-aged people also not covered by other phases from ages eighteen to fifty-nine.
