N.T.U.C.B. Condemns G.O.B.’s Treatment of Dr. Manza
The plight of Doctor Marvin Manzanero, the embattled Director of Health Services, is unresolved, despite the fact that his duties have been delegated to others in the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Earlier today, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize issued a statement condemning the manner in which the ministry has handled the issue. The N.T.U.C.B. also expressed disappointment with the actions taken by the Chief Executive Officer and the Minister of Health and Wellness. In supporting the position taken by the Association of Public Service Senior Managers, the umbrella organization states that the notion that Doctor Manzanero may be guilty of misconduct in carrying out his duties as D.H.S. is unacceptable. But according to Prime Minister John Briceño, the Director of Health Services failed to curb the number of COVID-19 infections since the pandemic began in 2020.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“Whilst we appreciate the work that Dr. Manza did earlier on, when there were so many unknowns, Dr. Manza failed in controlling the spread of COVID for many reasons and we don’t have to go down that road. The point is that he failed and we promised the Belizean people that we were going to do something about it and we were going to fix it and here we brought a woman, and that’s what you should be talking [about] I mean the media, that here we brought in a woman, a doctor and I know that some people are just honing on to the idea that she’s a Musa and she was a Diaz before she was married to a Musa. Doc came in and put a team together and flattened that curve. When we had sometimes as much as ten people dying a day, here we are now today that we have flattened the curve from over five thousand to less than a hundred and we don’t have as many people, thank God, that are dying.”
