The Game Goes On; Belize Meets Haiti in Port-au-Prince
Thursday’s World Cup Qualifier between Belize and Haiti will proceed as scheduled, that’s a decision taken by FIFA following an investigation by a match commissioner who was dispatched to the island nation in the wake of an incident involving the Belize Jaguars. On Monday, when the team arrived in Port-au-Prince they were held at gunpoint by rebels who descended on their tour bus as it made its way towards their hotel. The standoff between armed bikers and the police escort traumatized the Belizean delegation and concerns about their safety in the wake of that incident threatened tomorrow’s match. After investigating what transpired, notwithstanding the upheaval that has been happening in Haiti, a decision has been made that Team Belize will face Haiti’s men’s national team at the Sylvio Cator Stadium at three p.m.
