Omni Med doctors continue to visit Belize
A husband and wife who are both doctors are in Belize as part of the Omni Med Medical education program which is entering its second year. Dr. Michael Morley, an ophthalmologist, and Dr. Katherine Morrow, an emergency physician, are the sixth and seventh medical professionals to take part in the Belize Cooperative Health Education Program. The couple spent two days at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City and will continue their teaching and observation of the Belizean medical scene in San Ignacio and Dangriga over the next few days. Dr. Morrow told News Five she is learning a great deal about medicine in Belize.
Dr. Katherine Morrow, Emergency Physician
“We spent most of our time here giving lectures and talks with physicians and nurses and other medical providers here at the hospital. It allows us an opportunity to exchange ideas about how we practice medicine and talk about patients and how we care for them.”
Q: “Did you do any observation in the emergency room?”
Dr. Katherine Morrow
“I spent some time yesterday watching some of the activities in the emergency department.”
Q: “What did you find as some of the biggest things that surprised you?”
Dr. Katherine Morrow
“Well I don’t mean to say that this is a surprise, but the physicians really deliver high quality care, the nurse and staff is working very hard and I think they do a good job of taking care of the patients with the resources that they have available to them.”
Omni Med was founded in Belize in 1998 to mobilize health care professionals to become more involved in international health service and education. It is funded in part by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation with support from American Airlines and the Rotary Clubs of Orange Walk, San Ignacio and Belize.
