K.H.M.H. readies for millennium baby

It’s getting to be that time of year when expectant mothers start watching the calendar… and the clock. While the Lions Club will as is customary, be showering the first baby of the year with a basket of gifts, for the new millennium the Ministry of Health has also gotten into the act.

Jose Coye, Minister of Health

"The first one that is born here in the hospital will certainly be given a gift. As a matter of fact I think what we are trying to encourage today is that everyone is born in the hospital on that day. Apart from the first, gifts will be given.

We have been looking to the private sector for contribution but I would like to say here that the Chairman of the Board has already volunteered and he will say his side about it. I personally will make a contribution towards a gift to babies born on that day."

"I am going to present to the mother of the millennium baby a check for a hundred dollars to go into a savings account for the child in Holy Redeemer Credit Union. Because I feel that from birth you should be encouraged to save for your future."
