National Drug Policy in development
Numerous complaints from the public about the quality of health care and the lack of enforcement of existing legislation has lead the Ministry of Health to develop a National Drug Policy. Sharon Sanchez, Chief Pharmacist in the Ministry is coordinating a workshop at the Radisson to work on the document. She says it will help government enforce the principles and policies outlined in the National Health Plan.

“There is constant complaint from the public about the quality of care that they receive from the different health facilities throughout the country. The health reform process identified these areas and it was advised that if the government will be able to reform, they need to be more aware of their role to monitor and evaluate the services. In order for us to do that we need indicators in place that we can use to implement and re-evaluate the process to ensure that the services we are giving to the public is good.”
The National Drug Policy workshop is facilitated by the Pan American Health Organization and the Ministry of Health.
