SHAPES competition winners announced
The score cards are in and the winners have been announced for the first organized event of the School Health and Physical Education Service, SHAPES. On Thursday, twelve schools from all over Belize came together at the City Centre to compete for prizes by doing songs and skits about various health issues. In the song category, the winners are St. John’s Infant School for “Keep your Surroundings Clean,” Belmopan Upper School for “Smile! Show your White Teeth,” and Grace Primary for their presentation on dental health, “Take my Advice.” In the drama department, Calvary Temple School won with “If A Mi Only Know,” a skit about immunization, Belmopan Upper School for “Dental Health” and Sacred Heart School in Dangriga for “Sexual and Physical Abuse.” Each school won a first aid kit, a television and VCR. The winners will also participate in the making of health videos. The other schools did receive consolation prizes. Since it would have been expensive and tiring for the schools in the Toledo District to travel to Belize City for Thursday’s competition, they will have a similar competition on December ninth in Toledo. SHAPES is coordinated by the Ministry of Education with assistance from various other ministries and non-governmental associations.
