PAHO and Canada Donate Health Equipment
The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital has received some much needed equipment for COVID-19 patients. The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization and the Government of Canada donated six High-Flow Nasal Cannula systems and two advanced Patient Monitors with carbon dioxide and invasive blood pressure monitoring. The gift included the needed accessories. A release from PAHO says, “Part of case management is the close monitoring of the patient’s oxygen levels so that oxygen therapy is immediately initiated among those suffering from hypoxemia or low blood oxygen levels.” According to Doctor Noreen Jack, PAHO and WHO’s Representative in Belize, the machines have been reported to be effective in improving oxygenation and avoiding intubation compared to other conventional oxygen devices.
