To get an official update, this evening Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat spoke with the press via zoom about that developing possible spread of COVID-19 in Midway Village in Toledo.  Chebat says that the number of confirmed cases in that southern community stands at twenty-five and that the person who was detected last week is the index case.  Now, the ministry is considering stepping up containment measures for that village. Here’s more from Minister Chebat.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness

“Based on the surveillance that was done in Midway Village twenty-five persons were found to be positive For the COVID-19 virus.  We found the index case to be a person from the village who actually works in Barranco; that is the index case from the cluster.”

“He lives in Midway but he works in Barranco. From the contact tracing that was done it is believed he is what is called the index case.”

“In terms of his infection did he get infected at work or a social event?”

Michel Chebat

“Yes we believe his family members were also infected – either he infected them or they infected him – vice versa.”

“Talk to us about containing the spread?”

Michel Chebat

“We definitely are putting in quarantine measures where persons who have tested positive are required to stay at home. The teams are down there conducting more tests and I know that additional hundred and sixteen tests have been done and we are awaiting results and the measures we have used before are now being enforced in that village. We are also looking at the possibility of shutting down areas where people congregate in the village.”
