Interim Board for K.H.M.H. installed
Although the legislation is being drafted to turn the administration of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital over to an autonomous board, in the meantime, an Interim Board has been appointed. Today the board, headed by businessman Karl H. Menzies was officially introduced. Menzies has had a keen interest in the hospital ever since he received treatment there two years ago for a life threatening condition. He said the hospital’s own road to recovery will begin when the staff gives the public the respect they deserve, and the public shows the same respect for the staff. He said it will take more than just a change in attitude, however, they will need money and a transformation in the work ethic.
Karl H. Menzies
“And we will ask the cooperation of government through our Minister if they would continue to give us the amount of money they have been giving to the hospital of if possible to increase it and also, also to leave us with the revenue that we collect.
But we also have to put certain things in place and one is job evaluation and merit system. The old idea in my mind, and I’m sorry Mr. Minster, I don’t mean to thread on your Ministry of Civil Service, but the old rule of automatic promotion by seniority is gone with horse and cart. The old thing about increment whether you work or not I think is gone with horse and cart.
Maybe I was brought up in the wrong business, but I’ve only spent fifty-four years in commerce and one thing in commerce: you get paid when you work.”
The members of the Interim Board are Cortes Nurse, DeeAnn Musa, Dr. Francis Smith, Dr. John Waight, Matron Ivorine Hemmans, Narda Garcia, Hugh McSweaney, Margaret Ventura, Terry Bedran Stark, Jose Encalada and Anthony Thurton.
