Baylor Professor studies COVID Hygiene in Belize
Currently in Belize from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas is Dr Kristy Murray, a medical professor who has been collaborating with the Ministry of Health since 2017 on a number of health-related studies on pathogens and causes of a wide variety of diseases. Hence when COVID-19 hit, we already had the infrastructure in place to work on studies with them on this virus. Now she’s here to study how well our people have been adhering to the hygiene campaign.

“People here work hard and appreciate any help that they can get and we’re happy with any help that we can give. We’re actually going to bring a couple here from Central Medical Lab to the United States to Houston to train. We’re going to train them in our labs and they’re gonna come back with all the knowledge with them so that all of it can be done here in Belize so that samples don’t have to be sent outside somewhere to be tested. So we’re really excited about that partnership too and asking you guys to build the infrastructure here.”

“How long will that process take before we can start?”
Dr. Kristy Murray
“Our hope is that by September everything can be done here locally.”
Murray says that Baylor has been able to bring down the cost of testing for variants to within fifty US.
