Five Belizean nurses have completed an eighteen-month operating room training program in Taiwan. Viviane Villas, Sheila Dominguez, Lusbei Can, Elvita Choco and Enelie Alfaro completed the course on August fifth. The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) sent its congratulations to the five nurses, while acknowledging the help extended by the Chi-Mei Hospital. Ambassador of Belize to the Republic of China (Taiwan), Candice Pitts made remarks at the program’s closing ceremony.

“Besides being an ambassador, I am also a trained educator. So, this is one of the greatest ceremonies for me to attend, because I know the efforts and the sacrifices, and the dedication that students usually commit to their work. And, this is just a culmination of all that hard work. And each year, whenever I attend a graduation, I live vicariously through my students. I always wish them the best in their future academic as well as their professional endeavors. I want to say the same for each and every one of you, and to our five Belizean students. We are extremely proud of you as a nation.”
The nurses completed operating room training programs in general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, otolaryngology and neurosurgery. They return to Belize at the end of August.
