Pfizer for Children Only, for Now
The rollout of the Pfizer vaccine is set to begin on Monday, August twenty-third. But Minister Chebat says that until the other batches arrive in country, the one hundred and eleven thousand one hundred and fifty doses are reserved for children from ages twelve and older.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness
“There is always this perception. But I will tell you that AstraZeneca vaccine has worked wonderfully; it has had incredible results. I do understand that there are people who are waiting for this vaccine. There are people who believe that because they may have some type of allergies and so on that this may be the better vaccine. In the initial phase, until we receive the second tranche, we are going to try as best as possible to reserve this tranche so that our children can get back into school.”
The U.S. Government has announced that it is recommending that fully vaccinated persons receive a third booster shot after eight months. Minister Chebat says that in Belize, we are not at that stage at this time. So far one hundred and fifty thousand one hundred and eighty-one persons have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while sixty-two thousand one hundred and ninety-nine adults have been fully vaccinated.
